Naval Station Norfolk HVAC-R Class 22 graduates ready for service tech careers

Students in Naval Station Norfolk HVAC-R Class 22 graduated from the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program on Aug. 1. 

During their time in the program, students learned the skills necessary to begin rewarding civilian careers in the heating and cooling service industry. 

After they transition out of the military, HVAC-R Class 22 graduates will start their new civilian careers as HVAC-R technicians. 

The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge program that was created to help active-duty military members in their last six months of military commitment prepare for new civilian careers. 20240506_152738

During the program, students were taught by experienced UA journeymen how to install and maintain heating, cooling and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial and industrial areas. 

Class 22 graduates had the opportunity to earn industry certifications in HVAC refrigeration, UA 51 brazing, EPA 608, OSHA and more. 

Graduates can take these certifications with them when they begin their apprenticeship, which will help them stand apart from their peers. 

The UA VIP program offers accelerated training in welding, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC-R) and fire suppression. The program is offered at the following military bases:

Start a rewarding civilian career

Once UA VIP students graduate from the program, students are guaranteed job placement and direct entrance into a UA-registered apprenticeship program, at an agreed-upon location. image000005

When graduates begin their DOL-registered UA apprenticeship, they will continue to learn and earn more certifications alongside journeymen instructors. 

Apprentices will earn good wages while they continue to master their trade both in the classroom and on the jobsite. They will also receive quality healthcare and start contributing to a pension and a 401K for their retirement.
