Congratulations to the students in Naval Station Norfolk HVACR Class 23 on your graduation from the United Associations Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program.
During their time in the program, Class 23 students learned the skills necessary to begin their rewarding civilian careers in the heating and cooling service industry.
The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge program that was created to help active-duty military members in their last six months of military commitment prepare for new civilian careers.
After they transition out of the military, the Class 23 graduates will start their new civilian careers as HVACR technicians.
During the program, students were taught by experienced journeyman instructor Nastassia Leggett through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.
Leggett taught students the basics about how to install and maintain heating, cooling and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial and industrial areas.
Class 23 graduates had the opportunity to earn industry certifications in HVAC refrigeration, UA 51 brazing, EPA 608 and more.
UA VIP graduates can take these industry-recognized certifications with them when they begin their apprenticeship, helping them stand apart from their peers.
The UA VIP program offers accelerated training in welding, HVACR and fire suppression. The program is offered at the following seven military installations:
- Camp Pendleton (welding)
- Joint Base Lewis-McChord (welding and HVACR)
- Fort Carson (welding)
- Fort Cavazos (welding)
- Camp Lejeune (welding)
- Fort Campbell (welding and fire suppression)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)
UA VIP helps you start a rewarding career
Once UA VIP students graduate from the program, they are guaranteed job placement and direct entrance into a DOL-registered apprenticeship program.
When graduates begin their UA apprenticeship training, they will continue to learn and earn more certifications alongside journeymen instructors.
Apprentices will earn good wages while they continue to learn the trade both in the classroom and on the jobsite. They will also receive quality healthcare and start contributing to a pension and a 401K for their retirement.
All transitioning active-duty service members are encouraged to apply for the UA VIP program. Learn more on the UA VIP website.
